Otsuka Masjid
Alhamdulillah!
Ramadan is almost upon us — a month of mercy, discipline, and beautiful worship. In our homes, personal and family ‘ibādah plans are taking shape. At the same time, our masjid is preparing its heart and space to warmly welcome the community.
Along with this joy comes an amānah (responsibility). Our worship must never become a cause of hardship, discomfort, or disturbance to our Japanese neighbors. Islam teaches us to be a mercy to all. In Japan — where manners, order, and consideration are deeply valued — our actions speak louder than words.
With this intention, Otsuka Masjid has implemented the following important guidelines to ensure that Ramadan worship is conducted smoothly, respectfully, and in a way that reflects the true beauty of Islam.
We kindly ask everyone to read carefully and cooperate fully.
1️⃣ Bicycle Parking
Bicycle parking near the masjid is strictly prohibited.
Please use designated bicycle parking areas near the station.
Blocking roads or parking improperly causes inconvenience to neighbors and creates a negative image of Muslims.
Let us be mindful and responsible members of society.
2️⃣ Iftar Arrangements
We will provide a small iftar at the masjid. However, we strongly encourage families to have iftar at home.
Iftar is not only about eating — it is a precious time to:
- Sit together as a family
- Make du‘ā
- Reflect on the day
- Strengthen bonds with our children
Ramadan is a special opportunity to teach our children the beauty of fasting and togetherness. As you know, our masjid has limited space, and proper crowd management is necessary to ensure comfort and safety for all.
3️⃣ Children & Taraweeh
We warmly welcome families and are always happy to see parents and children worshipping together. To maintain a peaceful and focused prayer environment, we kindly request parents’ cooperation:
- Children under 6 years old (babies and preschoolers) are kindly requested to remain at home during Taraweeh.
- Children aged 6 years( primary ) and above are welcome to join the ṣalāh, provided they stand next to and remain under the supervision of their parent at all times.
Your cooperation helps create a spiritually uplifting atmosphere for everyone.
4️⃣ Mobile Phones
Mobile phones are strictly prohibited for youth inside the masjid during Ramadan.
If a phone is found, it will be kept by the masjid, and parents must collect it personally.
This rule is firm and non-negotiable.
Our goal is to preserve the sanctity and focus of worship.
5️⃣ No Gathering or Loud Talking Outside
Please avoid standing, chatting, or gathering outside the masjid after prayers.
What may be common in our home countries may not be appropriate in Japan. Even small disturbances can affect our neighbors. Kindly disperse quietly and respectfully.
6️⃣ Keep Our Surroundings Clean
Cleanliness is part of īmān.
Let us ensure that:
- The masjid remains clean
- Nearby streets are left spotless
- No litter is left behind
Our character is a reflection of our faith.
The Spirit of Ramadan
Ramadan is not only about praying more.
It is about discipline, respect, patience, and excellent character.
If our neighbors feel disturbed, annoyed, or disrespected, then we have missed the spirit of Ramadan — no matter how much we pray.
May Allah accept our fasting, our prayers, and our efforts.
May He make us a source of goodness, peace, and beautiful character for everyone around us. Āmīn.
Jazakumullāhu khairan for your understanding and cooperation.
