Science, Sustainability, and Hope: A Talk on Microplastic Pollution
Posted on : الخميس 25 ديسمبر 2025
Aminah Ibrahim is a Doctor of coastal ecology, specializing in microplastic pollution.
From Malaysia, she has studied in Malaysia, Germany and Japan and now works researching and teaching in Kochi (Japan) and Malaysia.

She gave a presentation to G10 students yesterday, December 19th about her studies, her research and the problem of microplastics.
I was pleased that students were attentive and asked some very pertinent questions – “What can be done to break down the micro-plastics?”, “what are the possible dangers of a bacterial solution for breakdown”… and “is it too late?” also an important question, to which the answer, essentially – ‘that we cannot undo the past, but we can make a better future’, was both realistic and hopeful.
Students could get a sense of the importance of science in general for understanding the world and could see that through science they can deepen their recognition for the intricacies of the world from an Islamic perspective.

Aminah sensei also emphasized the availability of funding, grants etc for study around the world , so even if one is not wealthy, very real possibilities exist; which definitely raised interest in the students as well!
