Dec 31, 2012

The 13th Annual Quran Recitation Competition in Japan took place at the Arabic Islamic Institute, Tokyo on Monday December 31, 2012.

The event started at 1:30pm and ended at 1am (1st Jan 2013). This event was organized by Japan Islamic Trust, Masjid Otsuka with the cooperation of the Arabic Islamic Institute, Tokyo and was well-supported by The Holy Quran Memorization Organization, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia (بجدة لهيئة العالمية لتحفيظ القرآن الكريم ا رابطة العالم الإسلامي).

We express our gratitude towards Dr. Khaled Bin Naser (Director of Arabic Islamic Institute) and Dr. Abdulaziz Turkistani (Ambassador of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Tokyo) for their special cooperation and assistance in this regard. We also thank Fadilat Al Sheikh Dr. Abdullah Ali Basfar, Secretary General of Holy Quran Memorization International Organization, Jeddah for his massive support regarding the work of Quran Karim in Japan.

This event has been taking place for the past thirteen years but the number of participants this year, was incredibly huge. More than 400-450 people attended the program, including both, participants and their parents. Thus, this was the biggest event of its type in the history of Japan.

There were several judges from different parts of Tokyo who graded the students. The panel of judges kept changing for each level and in order to avoid bias and favoritism, the management made sure that the judges did not grade their own students.

The students were awarded marks based on how well they memorized the Holy Quran, their pronunciation and grammar.

Despite being the New Year Eve, when families visit their hometowns, the turnout of people was enormous. People came from all over Japan and not just Tokyo.
