The 13th Annual Quran Recitation Competition in Japan took place at the Arabic Islamic Institute, Tokyo on Monday December 31, 2012.
The event started at 1:30pm and ended at 1am (1st Jan 2013). This event was organized by Japan Islamic Trust, Masjid Otsuka with the cooperation of the Arabic Islamic Institute, Tokyo and was well-supported by The Holy Quran Memorization Organization, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia (بجدة لهيئة العالمية لتحفيظ القرآن الكريم ا رابطة العالم الإسلامي).
We express our gratitude towards Dr. Khaled Bin Naser (Director of Arabic Islamic Institute) and Dr. Abdulaziz Turkistani (Ambassador of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Tokyo) for their special cooperation and assistance in this regard. We also thank Fadilat Al Sheikh Dr. Abdullah Ali Basfar, Secretary General of Holy Quran Memorization International Organization, Jeddah for his massive support regarding the work of Quran Karim in Japan.
This event has been taking place for the past thirteen years but the number of participants this year, was incredibly huge. More than 400-450 people attended the program, including both, participants and their parents. Thus, this was the biggest event of its type in the history of Japan.

There were 7 different categories of participants based on the 7 different levels of memorization of the Holy Quran which are as following;
Level 1: memorized more than 1 Surah
Level 2: memorized more than half Juz
Level 3: memorized more than one Juz
Level 4: memorized more than two Juz
Level 5: memorized more than three Juz
Level 6: memorized more than five Juz
Level 7 : memorized the complete Holy Quran Karim
There were several judges from different parts of Tokyo who graded the students. The panel of judges kept changing for each level and in order to avoid bias and favoritism, the management made sure that the judges did not grade their own students.
The students were awarded marks based on how well they memorized the Holy Quran, their pronunciation and grammar.

There were three main winners for each level and each one of them received a Digital Holy Quran and a certificate of excellence and appreciation too. Besides this, a special dinner coupon of different Halal restaurants in Tokyo, were given to the 4th position holders in each level.
In general, all participants of all levels received some gifts as a token of encouragement for the future. Not to mention, the final winner of Level 7, Mr.Huzaifa Bashir won two return tickets plus accommodation for an Umrah trip for himself and his father.
Again, he is the first Hafiz of his age in the history of Japan, Mashaallah. We pray to Allah (Swt) that the number of Hafiz graduates increases at a snowballing rate every year.

Moreover, there was media coverage by a local News Channel in addition to the live streaming of the complete event on our official website for those who could not attend the event.
The Chief Guest of this mega event was the Honorable Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to Japan. His presence in this program was a matter of great pride and honor for both the management and the audience. His powerful speech boosted the morale of the participants and stimulated them to work even harder. Mr. & Mrs. Ambassador also gave some generous cash prizes to certain participants which helped motivate them further.

Despite being the New Year Eve, when families visit their hometowns, the turnout of people was enormous. People came from all over Japan and not just Tokyo. To conclude, we thank everyone for helping us make this event a great success; management, volunteers, participants, supporters and the wonderful audience. May Allah (Swt) reward everyone for their effort.
